Religion: Tim Tebow angers fellow NFL recruits with prayer request. Tim Tebow, one time Heisman trophy winner and poster boy for in your face Christianity, was told to "shut the f—k up" by fellow NFL recruits after making a request for prayer before taking the Wonderlic standardized test.

Tebow, and other prospects for the National Football League (NFL), are being readied for the NFL draft. Part of this process is participating in the Scouting Combine. Part of participating in the Scouting Combine is taking a standardized intelligence test used by potential employers, including the NFL.

According to NBC sports:

At the Scouting Combine, the Wonderlic exam is administered to players in groups. The 12-minute test is preceded by some brief instructions and comments from the person administering the test.

Per a league source, after the person administering the test to Tebow's group had finished, Tebow made a request that the players bow their heads in prayer before taking the 50-question exam.

Said one of the other players in response: "Shut the f—k up." Others players in the room then laughed.

Tebow is no stranger to controversy. As a college football player he was notorious for wearing his religion on his sleave, and on his face. Tebow's trademark game-day look is black under-eye make-up high-lighting various Bible verses. Wearing Bible verses under his eyes naturally endeared Tebow to certain Christians, while many others found the behavior an obnoxious and gratuitous display of Christian Imperialism.

While cursing at Tebow is not the most diplomatic approach, one can easily understand the player's annoyance and frustration with Tebow's insensitive and presumptuous request. Tebow is not alone in his insensitivity and presumption. Tebow's behavior is but one of countless examples of an obnoxious and toxic Christian arrogance that permeates our society.

Indeed, leaving out the direct insult to all non-Christians, Tebow's behavior insults many true Christians who happen to take their faith seriously, and have little use for hucksters and showmen like Tebow and his evangelical family.
